Filmmaker Jaydip Mukherjee, who has many archival works to his credit, and whose recent work on showman Raj Kapoor’s Calcutta (now Kolkata) connection, Painted Memories: Calcutta Connects Raj Kapoor is up for release, is set to release his second book Cinemanama – Cinemar Protichhobi (Reflection of Cinema). The book will be released at the International Kolkata Book Fair in Salt Lake.
The book fair had a footfall of around 4 lakh on Monday, Republic Day.
The book is a compilation of his columns written for various publications over 15 years. “I realised that there is a chronology of my topics, starting from the start of Hollywood to its unfolding in India. Though they are based on facts and figures, there is a story, which is told in a lucid way,” said Mr Mukherjee.
The book will have the filmmaker’s views on subjects like German expressionism, Futuristic set design, Russian cinema and many more. “Through my writings, I have tried to bring in the social relevance of the times when the film was made, so that the audience finds the context of the story of the film,” said the filmmaker.
Mr Mukherjee’s imagination is his forte, which has made the book more readable and also has anecdotes like how MS Sathyu’s Garam Hava found its lead character Badar Begum and her background story.
The book’s foreword is by noted filmmaker Atanu Ghosh.
