Farhan Akhtar and filmmaker Rakeysh Omprakash Mehra have reunited after six years and their forthcoming venture is Toofan. The actor last collaborated with Mehra for Bhaag Milkha Bhaag, a biopic on legendary Olympian Milkha Singh.

Unlike their previous film, this one will be a fiction where the Rock On actor will be seen playing a boxer.

Film critic Taran Adarsh shared the news on Wednesday via Twitter. “IT’S OFFICIAL… After #BhaagMilkhaBhaag, Rakeysh Omprakash Mehra and Farhan Akhtar reunite for #Toofan… A heartfelt story of a boxer… Mehra will direct the film,” the tweet read.

Farhan Akhtar also took to Instagram and shared a picture with Rakeysh Mehra, confirming the development.

“Thrilled to share that six years after Bhaag Milkha Bhaag, Rakeysh Omprakash Mehra and I are reuniting to create ‘Toofan’, a heartfelt story of a boxer. Hope for your best wishes as we embark on this new journey. Love,” he wrote.

Quoting a source close to the project, a report in The Indian Express said, “It’s not a biopic. It is a fictional story scripted by Anjum Rajabali. Farhan fell in love with it as soon as he heard it. Rakeysh has already started with the prep and Farhan will be training extensively in boxing. He is looking forward to working with Rakeysh again. The film should roll this year.”

Toofan will be jointly produced by Ritesh Sidhwani and Farhan Akhtar under the banner of Excel Movies and in association with Mehra’s production house ROMP Pictures.
