Agnes, famously known online as EpicGamerGrandma, has passed away at the age of 78. The beloved grandmother, who captured hearts with her playful TikTok videos, died on Sunday in hospital, surrounded by her family, after suffering a stroke in October.
A life beyond the screen
While millions knew her for her quirky videos, Agnes’ grandson Dylan King reminded fans that she was so much more than her online persona.
In a heartfelt Instagram post, Dylan said, “We are proud of the woman she was long before anyone knew her online. Proud of the mum and grandma who held our family together and proud of the way she spent her later years proving that life does not end at a certain age, it only changes shape.”
For most of her life, Agnes was not a social media star. She was a devoted daughter, sister, mother, grandmother, neighbour, and friend always putting others first, remembering birthdays, checking in on loved ones, and quietly carrying burdens she never shared.
TikTok fame and fun
Agnes’ TikTok page attracted 2.4 million followers and 81 million likes. Her videos ranged from playing video games to using fun face filters to hilarious soundboard clips.
Fans affectionately called her the “coughing gran”. This was a nickname she earned by openly sharing her struggles with chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD).
Beyond the laughs, Agnes was also honest about life’s challenges. She spoke about her grief after losing her husband George. She openly shared updates about her health with her online followers inspiring people with her honesty and resilience.
