Eileen Fulton, the actress who became a household name for her role as Lisa Miller in the long-running soap opera ‘As the World Turns’, has passed away at the age of 91.

She died on Monday in Asheville, North Carolina, after battling health issues for some time. Her passing was confirmed through an obituary shared by a local funeral home.

Eileen Fulton first stepped into the shoes of Lisa Miller in 1960, when ‘As the World Turns’ was at the height of its popularity. She continued playing the role for an incredible 50 years, staying on the show until it ended in 2010.

Lisa Miller was one of daytime television’s first “bad girls.” At a time when most female characters were portrayed as soft-spoken or obedient, Lisa stood out. She was bold, scheming, and often stirred up trouble, which made her both loved and hated by fans.

During her time on the show, Lisa Miller married eight times and was part of countless dramatic storylines. Despite all the drama, the character remained at the center of the show, earning Fulton a loyal fan base.

Fulton’s contributions to television didn’t go unnoticed. In 1998, she was inducted into the Soap Opera Hall of Fame. Later, in 2004, she received the Daytime Emmy Lifetime Achievement Award, recognizing her for her decades of work in daytime drama.

While she was best known for her soap opera role, Fulton also had a vibrant career outside of television. She performed in stage productions, including the Broadway play ‘Who’s Afraid of Virginia Woolf’ and the long-running off-Broadway musical ‘The Fantasticks’.

She also sang in cabaret shows in New York and Los Angeles.

Fulton was also a writer. She published two autobiographies, ‘How My World Turns’ in 1970 and ‘As My World Still Turns’ in 1995, to share stories from her life and career. In addition, she wrote six murder mystery novels during the 1980s, proving her talent went far beyond acting.

In 2019, Fulton officially retired and settled in Black Mountain, North Carolina. She spent her final years there, away from the spotlight.

Eileen Fulton is survived by her brother, Charles Furman McLarty, her niece, Katherine Morris, and her sister-in-law, Chris Page McLarty.
