The streaming wars just turned into a full-blown political soap opera and this time, the drama is not on screen. It’s between politicians, podcasts, and powerful boardrooms. And yes, Netflix has landed right in the middle of it.

US President Donald Trump has publicly demanded that Netflix fire board member Susan Rice, after comments she made about corporate accountability when Democrats return to power.

Trump took to Truth Social on Saturday and went full caps-lock mode. He called Rice “racist” and “Trump Deranged,” and insisted that Netflix should fire her “IMMEDIATELY, or pay the consequences.” He also questioned her talent, skills, and even her pay.

This explosive message quickly grabbed headlines, pulling Netflix into a political showdown that has little to do with movies or series and everything to do with power.

The podcast comments that sparked the firestorm

The controversy began earlier this week when Rice appeared on a podcast hosted by Preet Bharara. During the conversation, she warned that corporations, media houses, law firms aligning with Trump for short-term gains may face consequences if political power shifts again.

She bluntly said such moves would “not end well” for them, claiming that some companies were acting in “very narrow” and “very short-term self interest.” According to her, a political swing could leave these organizations exposed and accountable to voters who oppose Trump.

Rice also said that if corporations expect Democrats to simply forgive layoffs, policy changes, or legal shortcuts once they regain power, they are mistaken. She insisted future leadership would still follow the law but would not be “suckers” while opponents play by a different rulebook.

Trump amplifies MAGA criticism of Netflix

Trump didn’t just stop at his own comments. He shared a post from right-wing influencer Laura Loomer, who has repeatedly attacked Netflix over its rumored interest in acquiring Warner Bros. Discovery.

Many MAGA voices have criticized Netflix’s connections to former President Barack Obama, noting that Rice served as US ambassador to the United Nations during Obama’s first term and later as his national security adviser.

That history has turned Rice into a symbolic target for conservative critics who see corporate Hollywood as politically aligned against Trump.

Netflix-Warner Bros. deal adds more political tension

The timing of Trump’s comments is not random. Netflix is reportedly pursuing a deal involving Warner Bros. Discovery, while Paramount is also a competing bidder.

Trump recently told NBC News he would not personally decide whether regulators approve such a deal. But that statement raised eyebrows because he previously suggested he might be involved; something unusual given the long-standing tradition of presidents staying distant from Justice Department decisions.

That contradiction has added even more political heat to an already sensitive merger review process.
