Actor Vishal Mohan has responded to the growing backlash around his latest film Yadav Ji Ki Love Story, addressing whether controversies today end up becoming marketing tools for movies.

In an exclusive chat with IANS, the actor made it clear that while debates may surround a film after release, that is never the focus during the making process.

Focus stays on the film

When asked if controversy sometimes helps promote films, Vishal said the creative team remains fully invested in the work itself rather than the noise around it.

He acknowledged that controversies can have both positive and negative sides. However, according to him, filmmakers do not sit down with the intention of creating one.

Vishal explained, “But when we make a film, neither the producer, nor the director, nor the actors focus on controversy. Our only aim is to give our best to society and the audience — through strong performances, meaningful writing, and sincere direction. That is where our attention lies.”

‘Intent is being misunderstood’

The actor was also asked about the strong reactions to the film’s title. Responding to this, Vishal said the team was always clear about what they wanted to convey.

He stressed that many of the interpretations currently circulating do not reflect the film’s actual message.

“The interpretation that some people are drawing from the title is not what the film represents. For us, our country and culture mean everything. We believe in one identity — we are Indians. Beyond that, we are all brothers and sisters.”

According to him, the makers view the story through a broader lens of shared identity and cultural respect, adding that for them, the idea of being Indian comes before everything else.

A family-friendly film, says actor

Vishal further described Yadav Ji Ki Love Story as a clean, family-oriented film meant for all age groups.

“You can watch it with your children and parents without hesitation. Judging a two-hour film based on a short promotional clip of a few seconds is not fair,” he went on to add.

He urged viewers not to judge the project based on brief promotional snippets, noting that a full two-hour narrative cannot be understood through a few seconds of footage.

Why the film is facing protests

The film has recently drawn protests over its portrayal of an interfaith romance involving a member of the Yadav community.

The controversy has escalated to the point where FIRs have reportedly been filed and some groups have demanded a ban.

Despite the noise, Vishal maintains that the team’s priority has always been honest storytelling, and he hopes audiences will watch the film before forming conclusions.
