Rajat Bedi is the new talk of the town after his recent appearance on Aryan Khan’s Netflix show ‘The Ba***ds of Bollywood’. And now the actor has shared an emotional glimpse into his personal life. He reflects on his late father, filmmaker Narendra Bedi.
Popular for films like ‘Jawani Diwani’, ‘Bandhan’, and ‘Maha Chor’, Narendra Bedi was a prominent director and producer in what they call Bollywood’s golden era.
But behind all the glamour, his life had its fair share of struggles.
Rajat recalled the moment he lost his father. “He died right in front of my eyes. I came home from school, and he came out of the room and collapsed,” he shared, his voice tinged with sadness. He explained that his father’s health had been deteriorating due to alcoholism and depression. “He was doing well professionally, but my grandfather had some film liabilities, and my father was managing those,” Rajat said.

The actor also spoke about the challenges his father faced while working with Bollywood legends. “My dad had started 2-3 films with Rajesh Khanna, but Rajesh felt upset that he was also working with Amitabh Bachchan,” Rajat revealed. He recounted how his father had taken film units to Pune and waited for days for Khanna to arrive. “For 10 to 15 days, Rajesh didn’t show up, and my father ended up closing the projects,” he said.
Rajat also gave a glimpse into the personal side of his father’s life, sharing stories of long nights spent with Rajesh Khanna. “They used to drink all night. There used to be crates of alcohol in our house. My father would smoke, chew Pan Parag. His lifestyle was tough. Rajesh would leave around 5 or 6 in the morning, and they’d be drinking the whole night,” he said.
Despite these struggles, Narendra Bedi left a lasting legacy. He directed films like ‘Benaam’ and ‘Adalat’ with Amitabh Bachchan. He also created memorable projects with Rajesh Khanna.
