Bollywood has given us many memorable lines, but very few have lived as long and as loudly as Kareena Kapoor’s iconic declaration: “Main apni favourite hoon.”
And guess what? On International Women’s Day this year, Kareena reminded everyone exactly why that line still hits differently.
With a cheerful message and a set of sun-kissed pictures, the actor celebrated the day by encouraging women to love themselves first, just like her beloved character Geet from ‘Jab We Met’ once did.
The internet, of course, instantly recognised the reference and loved every bit of it.
Kareena’s Women’s Day message: Self-love first
Kareena kept her message simple, bold, and very on-brand.
In her Women’s Day post, she wrote: “To all the women out there DON’T EVER FORGET… to say every single day of your life… MAIN APNI FAVOURITE HOON… Happy Women’s Day, ladies.”
For many fans, the line represents unapologetic self-belief, the courage to put yourself first without guilt.
And honestly, Kareena saying it again feels like Geet herself is back to deliver a little life advice.
The line that became a cultural mantra
The famous line was first spoken by Kareena’s character Geet in Imtiaz Ali’s 2007 film ‘Jab We Met’.
In the film, Geet is cheerful, fearless, completely comfortable with who she is. When she proudly declares, “Main apni favourite hoon,” it perfectly captures her personality.
Over the years, that one line has taken on life of its own.
It has been quoted in social media captions, memes, motivational posts. It even comes up in everyday conversations. For many young women, it represents self-love, independence, freedom to be unapologetically themselves.
Kareena Kapoor on the work front
She was last seen in the heist comedy ‘Crew’ which released in March 2024. The film featured her alongside Tabu and Kriti Sanon.
Later in year, she appeared in crime thriller ‘The Buckingham Murders’ which released in September 2024. In this film, Kareena took on a darker and more intense role.
Looking ahead, Kareena already has another interesting project lined up.
She will next appear in ‘Daayra’, directed by Meghna Gulzar. The film also stars Prithviraj Sukumaran and is described as an investigative story. The film is currently scheduled for release in 2026, although the makers have not announced an exact date yet.
