Superhero films always look glossy and effortless on the big screen, but what happens behind the camera is often a different story. Filmmaker Rakesh Roshan recently shared a fascinating secret about the making of ‘Krrish’, and it involves a mask that melted faster than expected.
The revelation came when Farah Khan visited Rakesh Roshan’s mansion in Khandala for her YouTube vlog. The two bonded over food, tucking into a crispy arbi fry, and in between the banter, the filmmaker opened up about the long process of creating the superhero look.
When Farah casually asked him how long it took to design Hrithik Roshan’s iconic black mask for ‘Krrish’, Rakesh laughed before revealing the truth.
“It took us nearly six months,” he said. “We kept experimenting to see which shape would suit Hrithik best. Even the outfit went through several rounds before we finalized it.”
But the real challenge was the mask itself. Rakesh explained that it was made out of wax, and here’s where things got tricky. Hrithik could only wear it for three to four hours at a stretch before the wax started to melt.

“We had to remove it and replace it with a new one,” Rakesh shared. “I even arranged an air-conditioned bus that had to run 24 hours a day just so the masks wouldn’t melt before shooting!”
‘Krrish’ released in 2006 and became a milestone in Indian cinema, introducing audiences to a homegrown superhero. The film featured Hrithik Roshan in a double role, alongside Priyanka Chopra, Naseeruddin Shah, Rekha and others. The story followed Krishna Mehra, a young man with superhuman powers who transforms into Krrish to stop Dr. Siddhant Arya’s dangerous plans in Singapore.
The movie was not only a blockbuster but also cemented Hrithik Roshan’s place as India’s first big-screen superhero. The franchise continued with ‘Krrish 3’ in 2013, and fans have been waiting ever since for the next chapter.
Finally, in April 2025, Rakesh Roshan announced ‘Krrish 4’. In a surprising twist, this time Hrithik himself will step behind the camera to direct the film while also reprising his superhero role.
