Kareena Kapoor Khan shared an emotional note on her Instagram stories for her niece Samaira and nephew Kiaan, remembering their late father, Sunjay Kapur, on his birth anniversary. Her message read, “My Samu and Kiu, dad is protecting you always and forever.”
The post came after Kareena re-shared a story originally posted by her sister Karisma Kapoor. The picture featured a simple cake with the words “Happy Birthday Dad” written on it.
Sunjay Kapur, the industrialist and Karisma Kapoor’s ex-husband, passed away in June this year following an accident. Reports said he suffered a fatal heart attack after accidentally swallowing a bee. His sudden death shocked everyone, and what followed was a family legal battle over his massive ₹30,000 crore estate.
The legal battle
The Delhi High Court has been witnessing high drama as the hearing for Sunjay Kapur’s property dispute is taking a tense turn. The main issue revolves around the authenticity of Sunjay’s alleged will dated March 21, 2025. The document, according to Karisma Kapoor’s children, Samaira and Kiaan, was forged.
The will reportedly leaves a major share of Sunjay’s personal assets to his third wife, Priya Sachdev Kapur. However, the document is now under serious scrutiny, as several discrepancies have been spotted in its details and signatures.
Justice Jyoti Singh, who presided over the hearing, questioned Priya Kapur’s defence team, led by senior advocate Rajiv Nayar. His argument rested on technicalities claiming that the children hadn’t formally challenged the will in their partition suit. But the judge was quick to dismiss the point. He pointedly asked how the children could challenge a document they hadn’t even been allowed to see.

Representing Samaira and Kiaan, Senior Advocate Mahesh Jethmalani came down heavily on Priya’s side, calling the will “false in spirit and intent.” He said it was an attempt to “erase Sunjay’s own children and mother from his legacy.”
He further told the court, “These are not innocent slips. They are the fingerprints of a forged hand, a hand unfamiliar with the man it pretends to be.”
The children, through their petition, have accused Priya Kapur of tampering with their father’s will to take control of his entire property. They have requested the court to divide the estate fairly demanding one-fifth of the assets each as rightful legal heirs.
In their submission, they stated that they shared a close bond with their father. They frequently met him, spent vacations together, and were in constant touch through calls and WhatsApp messages. This claim directly challenges the narrative that Sunjay was estranged from his children.
