The makers of Ramayana just dropped the first look of Ranbir Kapoor as Lord Ram. The teaser, clocking in at around 2.5 minutes, promises a visually stunning ride into the timeless world of this epic saga.
In the teaser, Ranbir wears many hats, literally and metaphorically. From the dutiful prince to the fierce warrior, and from the compassionate son to the righteous king, every frame screams “Maryada Purushottam Rama.”
“Whenever the world descends into chaos, he is always the answer. Ruling our hearts for over 5,000 years. Our protector, our hero, the legend,” the teaser proclaims.
Eight-time Oscar-winning studio DNEG and Monster Mind Creations have teamed up to create visuals that are nothing short of breathtaking. From the grandeur of the palaces to the intensity of the battlefield, the teaser makes it clear that this Ramayana will be a feast for the eyes.
Rama: The hero who chooses duty over everything
What sets Lord Ram apart, the teaser reminds us, is not just his strength, but his choices. Known as Maryada Purushottama, he embodies moral clarity. Exile, loss, injustice; nothing sways him from doing what is right. Duty over desire, truth over comfort, sacrifice over self: these are the qualities that make Ram timeless, and Ranbir seems ready to bring them alive on screen.
Director Nitesh Tiwari shared his vision: “Ramayana’s greatness lies in its emotional richness. At its heart, it is not just about good and evil, but about choices, consequences, and the weight of doing what is right. Rama’s journey is deeply human, and that is what we have tried to stay true to.”
Ranbir’s take on the divine role
Ranbir Kapoor, who has never shied away from challenging roles, said, “I don’t think I am here to represent Rama. I am here to learn from him. There is a simplicity and purity to him that is very rare, and trying to understand and imbibe that has been a deeply humbling experience.”
Producer and creative brain Namit Malhotra added, “The power of Rama’s story is not in what he conquers, but in what he lets go of. He represents a standard that is not easy, not convenient, but necessary. He chooses duty over desire, truth over comfort, and sacrifice over self. That is why his story has endured for thousands of years, and why it continues to matter today.”
Star-studded cast
The first installment of Ramayana is slated as the big Diwali release this year. Alongside Ranbir, the film stars Sai Pallavi as Goddess Sita, Ravie Dubey as Laxman, Sunny Deol as Lord Hanuman, and Yash as the formidable Ravana.
