National Award-winning actress Divya Dutta recently opened up about her experience of playing a powerful character in the new show ‘Mayasabha: The Rise of the Titans’. The show features a woman navigating a world ruled mostly by men, a role that Dutta found both challenging and fulfilling.

Speaking to IANS, Dutta described the experience as “overwhelming,” but also rewarding. She explained, “It was absolutely overwhelming, if I may say. But when you do something well, whether you’re an actor, a politician, or anyone in any profession, you make your mark.”

According to Dutta, while the impact might not always immediately receive recognition, people will eventually acknowledge it, especially when actors give their dedication and strength.

Her character, Iravati, is a central figure in a story in a traditionally male-dominated industry. Dutta shared that the clarity of vision from the director, Deva Katta, played a big role in how she shaped the character.

“The director’s vision gave me confidence and clarity,” she said. “He was very clear about what he wanted, which made my job much easier. As an actor, it’s always a relief when you know exactly what the director expects from you.”

When asked if her personal beliefs influenced her portrayal of Iravati, Dutta was quick to clarify that she did not draw on any specific belief system. Instead, she relied on the director’s guidance to bring the character to life.

“My portrayal of Iravati is absolutely what my director, Deva Katta, envisioned,” she said. “He had a very clear idea of the tonality and impact he wanted from my performance. He told me exactly how to look, how to carry myself, and how to make those moments count. A little bit of improvisation, mixed with his clear direction, resulted in a powerful performance.”

The actress emphasized how essential it is for actors to have a director with a strong vision, as it helps guide their performance and makes it easier to deliver a compelling portrayal of complex characters.

The actress also noted that roles like Iravati are important because they show that women can hold power and influence in any setting. “Even in a traditionally male-dominated space, women can be strong, powerful, and make an impact,” she said.
