Music legend AR Rahman just made fans of cinema and Harry Potter very happy with a single Instagram post, as the Academy Award-winning composer shared a selfie with actor Tom Felton, who famously played Draco Malfoy in the Harry Potter films.

But this time, Felton is not holding a wand. He is part of Hansal Mehta’s much-talked-about series ‘Gandhi’, which recently had its grand premiere at the Toronto International Film Festival (TIFF).

Rahman, who is scoring the series, posted the picture with the caption, “With Draco. @t22felton is a major part of the #Gandhi series I am scoring which premiered yesterday.”

In the upcoming series, Tom Felton will appear as Josiah Oldfield, a friend of young Gandhi. Directed by Hansal Mehta and produced by Applause Entertainment, the show is based on historian Ramachandra Guha’s books ‘Gandhi Before India’ and ‘Gandhi: The Years That Changed the World’.

The makers have planned it as a three-season journey.

The first season, which wrapped filming in August 2024, covers Gandhi’s early life from 1888 to 1915. Viewers will see him as a teenager in India, then as a shy law student in London, and later as a young lawyer in South Africa, where he spent 23 years that shaped his ideas of justice and non-violence.

Actor Pratik Gandhi plays Mahatma Gandhi, while Bhamini Oza portrays Kasturba Gandhi.

The presence of Rahman in the project adds another layer of anticipation. Known for blending Indian classical music with global sounds, Rahman has an unmatched record with two Academy Awards, two Grammys, a BAFTA, a Golden Globe, and several national honours, including the Padma Bhushan.

Fans are eager to hear how he brings Gandhi’s world to life.

As for Tom Felton, his journey from the corridors of Hogwarts to serious historical drama has been fascinating.

Before becoming the sly Draco Malfoy in J.K. Rowling’s Harry Potter saga, he appeared in ‘The Borrowers’ and ‘Anna and the King’. Post-Harry Potter, he explored different genres with films like ‘Rise of the Planet of the Apes’, ‘The Apparition’, and several indie projects.
