Actor Urvashi Rautela on Tuesday appeared before the Directorate of Enforcement (ED) at the agency’s headquarters in the national capital in connection with questioning over an illegal online betting app, sources said.
Sources say that the actor’s statement is expected to be recorded as part of the ED’s ongoing probe into the 1xBet application case under the Prevention of Money Laundering Act (PMLA).
So far, the anti-money laundering agency has already questioned several other actors and cricketers in the matter.
Recently, prominent personalities like Sonu Sood, Yuvraj Singh, Shikhar Dhawan, former TMC MP Mimi Chakraborty and others were summoned by the agency in this case.
Some of them were grilled by the agency officials for up to eight hours a day, while they have denied any wrongful act.
Earlier this month, the agency had sent a summons to Rautela, and a social media influencer has also appeared before the ED for questioning in the same case.
The probe is largely related to financial links and arrangements concerning endorsements and promotional activities related to allegedly illegal betting app.
ED is investigating such allegedly illegal online betting platforms over the allegations of duping people, and also evading taxes.
It has been a while since the investigation is going on in the case with allegations by the concerned authorities that the said platform was illegally operating in the country, while there were several alleged irregularities in its operations, sources said.
The App’s main company is headquartered outside India, and is said to be amongst the largest online casinos.
