Two sharpshooters associated with the Davinder Bambiha and Kaushal Chaudhary gangs were arrested following an encounter with the police by the Crime Branch of the Gurugram Police near Maidawas village in Haryana’s Sohna early Sunday morning, an official said.

The accused, Sumit Sharma (21) and Sukhmanjit Singh (19), both natives of Punjab’s Amritsar, have multiple criminal cases registered against them in Punjab, the police said, adding, “The duo worked with the gangs of notorious Kaushal Chaudhary and Devender Bambiha.”

The police said both were hurt in the gunfight and taken to the hospital.

At around 2 am on Sunday, crime unit teams stationed in Sector 39, Gurugram, received information that two sharpshooters associated with the Bambiha gang were present in the Sector 63 area. Based on this information, a team of officers set up barricades near Ramgarh village, as stated by an official.

Later, when two individuals approached and the police signaled them to stop, they opened fire on the team. An officer retaliated by firing back at them in self-defense. During the exchange, both criminals were shot in the legs, recounted an official.

During investigation, the police recovered two country-made pistols and two cartridges from their possession.

Sandeep Kumar, PRO, Gurugram Police, said, “Acting on an intelligence input, the crime branch team intercepted the duo near Maidawas, where the suspects opened fire.”

He continued by saying that the suspects fired seven rounds at the police. “Both were shot in the legs and overpowered. They were taken to the civil hospital for treatment and will be formally arrested and questioned once they are discharged by the doctors.”

The police reported recovering two country-made pistols, two live cartridges, and more than ten empty cartridges from the scene.
