A crime from Gujarat’s Surat has shocked people after a missing person case turned into a murder investigation. The case began when 40-year-old Vishal Salvi walked into the police station and filed a complaint saying his wife, 39-year-old Shilpa Salvi, had gone missing. Vishal told officers that Shilpa, who worked as a dietician, was last seen around four days earlier.
At first, police treated it as standard missing person case and started basic checks and questioning. However, timeline given by husband and surrounding circumstances did not fully add up. This prompted officers to dig deeper into couple’s background and home situation.
The turning point came when police received handwritten note from couple’s minor son. The note was found at their residence and was written by Vishal himself. In the message, he reportedly admitted that he had made a serious mistake and indicated that Shilpa was no longer alive. This confession-like note immediately changed the direction of the case.
Abandoned house, foul smell, and shocking discovery
After reviewing note and collecting initial leads, police shifted the case from missing person investigation to suspected murder. Acting quickly, officers traced an old abandoned property linked to Vishal within the limits of Salabatpura police station.
When the police team reached the location, they broke open the locked house. As soon as they entered, they were met with a strong foul smell coming from inside the building. The source of the odour was soon traced to a wooden trunk placed in a corner of the room.
When the trunk was opened, investigators made a horrifying discovery. The decomposed body of Shilpa Salvi was found inside. Police also found that body had been hidden using raw cement.
Preliminary investigation suggests that the murder likely took place four to five days before Vishal filed the missing complaint.

Senior police officer Kanan Desai confirmed that the case began as missing person report but quickly turned into a murder investigation after the handwritten note surfaced and the body was recovered. The remains have been sent for post-mortem examination.
Marital conflict, suspected motive, and manhunt underway
During early questioning and background checks, police learned that couple had been facing long-standing marital problems. According to initial information gathered from acquaintances, there had been frequent tension between Vishal and Shilpa.
Investigators are also looking into the possibility that Vishal suspected his wife of being involved in an extramarital relationship. This suspicion is currently being examined as a possible motive behind the murder, though police have not confirmed it officially.
Meanwhile, Vishal Salvi remains absconding. After discovery of body, he disappeared from the area. Police teams are now tracking him using CCTV footage, mobile surveillance data, information gathered from local sources and informants.
Authorities have intensified efforts to locate him and believe he may still be hiding within or outside Surat.
