Dr Ranjan Paul Chowdhury, a senior consultant surgeon from Siliguri, has brought international recognition to Indian medical science by entering the International Book of Records for performing the fastest laparoscopic cholecystectomy (gallbladder removal surgery).
On 20 May, Dr Chowdhury successfully completed the procedure in just 3 minutes and 23 seconds, breaking the previous world record of 6 minutes and 12 seconds. His achievement has been officially certified by the International Book of Records, which congratulated him on setting a new global benchmark.
Speaking of his achievement, Dr Chowdhury said: “I have always been passionate about advancing surgical precision and efficiency. This recognition is not just personal but also a proud moment for Siliguri and Indian medical science.”
