When daughters are given the wings to realise their dreams, they will bring pride to the nation and the Tricolor will soar even higher, said Delhi Chief Minister Rekha Gupta, adding the time has come when we ’empower the daughters.’
Gupta was speaking at the launch of “Tiranga Cyclothon for Girls” from the Delhi Legislative Assembly on Tuesday morning.
The participants of the cyclothon braved downpour to successfully complete their bicycling expedition to Rajghat.
Interacting with the girls, the chief minister said in the past, the nation first emphasised ‘Save the Daughter’ and then advanced to the pledge of ‘Educate the Daughter’. Now, the time has come when we move to ‘empower the daughter’. The aim is to ensure a bright future for the girls.
She said that the daughters must be empowered to fulfill their dreams of becoming district magistrates, chief ministers, scientists, sportspersons, or assume any other role that brings honour to the country.
According to Gupta, under the leadership of Prime Minister Narendra Modi, the country’s future is moving toward a positive direction while the Delhi government is taking every possible step to advance the progress of the city’s daughters.
Extending her blessings to the participating schoolgirls, the CM said the initiative marks a new flight and a fresh chapter amid the Independence Day celebrations. She added that the event not only promotes the message of health and fitness but also demonstrates that girls are ready to excel in every field.
The CM urged all daughters to take the pledge to bring glory to the nation, and also grow from being Delhi’s daughters to becoming the daughters of the country.
Speaking on the occasion, Delhi’s education minister Ashish Sood said present day India asks its daughters for their resolve, passion, and unwavering determination towards the nation. “Flight is taken not with wings, but with courage,” he added.
He recalled that the route of the ‘Tiranga Cyclothon for Girls’ once witnessed historic events such as the Dandi March.
He shared that at the special request of the CM, this event was organised exclusively for girls, just as Netaji Subhash Chandra Bose had formed the Rani Lakshmibai Regiment during the freedom struggle.
Sood appealed to link the Independence Day celebrations with the Swachhata (Cleanliness) campaign, urging Delhi’s daughters to contribute towards keeping their homes and school surroundings clean and to ensure no activity takes place that pollutes, dirties, or harms the environment.
