Kota hospital C-section tragedy: Woman dies, Rajasthan orders high-level probe as safety lapses under scanner

A serious medical incident in Kota has triggered a government response after a woman died and several others developed complications following cesarean deliveries at a government hospital.

The incident took place at New Medical College Hospital in Kota where six women reportedly developed complications after undergoing cesarean deliveries. Among them, one woman died. Remaining five patients continue to receive treatment.

The sudden deterioration in health conditions among the postpartum women has been treated as a serious matter by the state authorities. Reports of worsening conditions quickly reached the government.

All five surviving patients were shifted to Super Speciality Hospital in Kota, where they are currently being treated with advanced medical care.

State government orders high-level inquiry

Rajasthan government has ordered a high-level inquiry into the incident. A specialist medical board has also been constituted to examine both the treatment provided and the circumstances that led to the complications.

Medical and Health Minister Gajendra Singh Khimsar directed immediate intervention after receiving reports of the deteriorating condition of the patients. He instructed officials to ensure a detailed investigation without delay.

A team of four senior doctors from Sawai Man Singh Medical College in Jaipur has been sent to Kota. The team includes experts from anaesthesia, medicine, obstetrics and gynaecology, and nephrology.

Officials have stated that the team will closely review patient records, treatment procedures, and hospital practices related to the cases.

Government promises accountability

Gayatri Rathore, Principal Secretary of Medical Education, confirmed that the affected women are receiving advanced care at the Super Speciality Hospital. She added that their health status is under constant observation.

Alongside medical efforts, the government has ordered comprehensive and time-bound inquiry to establish exact cause of the incident.

The state government has also made it clear that strict action will be taken if negligence or lapses in treatment are found.

At the same time, the administration has stated that corrective measures will be introduced to prevent such incidents in future.
