The Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) on Saturday said as the Congress government in Punjab has not proved any different from previous Shiromani Akali Dal-Bharatiya Janata Party (SAD-BJP) government, people of Punjab are against looking towards AAP with expectation for an alternative.
Addressing a Press conference, deputy chief minister of Delhi and AAP Punjab in-charge, Manish Sisodia said during the past one year the Amarinder Singh-led Congress government has failed to come good to the expectations of the people.
“Now there is a realisation that SAD-BJP and the Congress are not any different from each other. So AAP is emerging as a new hope again in Punjab,” he said while admitting that the party made some mistakes in 2017 Assembly polls which cost it the chance to come to power in the state.
Sisodia said AAP has done well in past one year as an Opposition party. “It’s because of AAP that a cabinet minister in the Congress government had to resign over corruption allegations,” he said.
On the apology offered by the AAP chief Arvind Kejriwal to the SAD leader Bikram Singh Majithia for his allegations of latter’s involvement in drug trade, Sisodia said the apology was part of the AAP strategy and the party wants to work on public issues instead of getting caught in legal cases.
He said drug mafia is still an issue in Punjab and the party will not hesitate in naming those involved in it. “Whichever (drug) mafia comes (before us), we will take name. “We will take names of all those (involved in drugs),” he told reporters while answering a barrage of questions on Kejriwal’s apology to Majithia.
Meanwhile, in order to reach out to its workers and bring the focus on the public issues, the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) is all set to launch a Punjabi newspaper, Aap Ki Kranti, in Punjab.
The AAP Punjab co-president Balbir Singh said this newspaper will be launched in three months time. The AAP is already having a newspaper, Aap Ki Kranti, at the national level which is used as a campaign tool.
“The Punjabi newspaper will not only give party’s viewpoint but also bring into focus hot public issues which are otherwise ignored by the media,” Singh said.
