To address the waterlogging issues faced by residents of the national capital during the ongoing monsoon season, the Municipal Corporation of Delhi (MCD) has intensified its efforts to ensure rapid drainage across the city, especially in vulnerable areas.

Chairperson of the Standing Committee, Satya Sharma, on Monday outlined the civic body’s action plan to combat waterlogging.

The measures include ensuring that permanent pumping stations are fully operational, deploying mobile pumps, activating complaint rooms, forming ward-level teams, carrying out desilting operations, and conducting continuous on-ground monitoring by Zonal Officials and Deputy Commissioners.

She informed that 79 permanent pumping stations are fully operational across all zones, and 465 mobile pumps of various capacities have been deployed to ensure quick drainage.

“The MCD has also placed additional portable pumps at vulnerable locations in all 12 zones to address water accumulation swiftly,” she added.

Sharma noted that control rooms responsible for registering complaints related to waterlogging, fallen trees, and damage to buildings are fully functional. To ensure an immediate response to any emergency, special ward-level teams have been stationed, she stated.

According to an official document, desilting work is being carried out extensively with the help of advanced machinery and a large workforce. Equipment such as super sucker machines, suction-cum-jetting machines, jetting units, pokelanes, backhoe loaders, and trucks are being used for drain cleaning.

Sharma added that all Deputy Commissioners, zonal heads, and senior officials are on high alert and continuously monitoring the situation on the ground. “Their active supervision is enabling the quick deployment of manpower and technical resources, ensuring a prompt and effective response to waterlogging,” she said.
