An accused, wanted in a murder case in Meerut, was shot in the leg in an encounter with the police near the DDA Jal Board building in Rohini on Thursday.

According to the police, Hamza was wanted in connection with the October 1 murder of a cloth merchant named Adil, a resident of Lisadi Gate in Meerut. The deceased was reportedly lured out of his home by his friends and taken to a nearby forest, where he was allegedly shot dead.

His body was discovered near a tube well in the area. A 12-second video circulating online, allegedly capturing the murder, shows someone shooting Adil three times in the chest with a pistol.

Deputy Commissioner of Police (Crime) Sanjeev Kumar Yadav stated that the police received information about Hamza’s whereabouts in Delhi and subsequently laid a trap. “He was seen riding a scooter near the DDA Jal Board building in Rohini. When the police tried to stop him, he attempted to escape but his two-wheeler skidded on the road,” the DCP said.

With no escape route, he fired two shots at the police. Despite repeated warnings, he kept shooting in a bid to flee.

“Sub-inspector Anshu Kadian and head constable Mahipal each fired a shot, injuring him in the left leg,” the DCP recounted.

He was then taken to a hospital. The scooter he was riding was found to have been stolen from Rani Bagh in Outer Delhi.

The police stated that Hamza has confessed to murdering Adil with his associates. In 2024, he also reportedly opened fire on a man named Wasi.

A few days ago, Hamza’s close associate, Julkmar, was arrested following a brief gunfight with Meerut police. Hamza managed to escape and has been on the run since then.
