Delhi and its neighbouring areas witnessed light rainfall for the third consecutive day on Saturday, with the India Meteorological Department (IMD) forecasting very light to light rain across the region over the next five days.
According to IMD data recorded until 5:30 pm, Safdarjung, the capital’s base weather station, recorded 12.9 mm of rainfall. Pragati Maidan and Lodhi Road stations reported 16.4 mm and 12.0 mm of rainfall, respectively, between 8:30 am and 5:30 pm.
Safdarjung recorded a near-normal minimum temperature of 26.4°C in the morning, while the maximum temperature during the day was pegged at 34.8°C.
Other areas saw slight increases in maximum temperatures. Lodhi Road touched 35°C during peak hours on Saturday, while the minimum temperature at the station was logged at 24.6°C, which is 1.4 degrees below normal.
Temperatures are expected to rise slightly, reaching up to 37°C on Sunday, with wind speeds ranging between 10 and 15 km/h, according to IMD data.
Meanwhile, Delhi’s air quality shifted to the “moderate” category, with an Air Quality Index (AQI) reading of 105, according to the Central Pollution Control Board (CPCB).
Ground-level ozone and PM10 were identified as the major pollutants. Out of 39 monitoring stations across the city, 36 reported AQI values within the ‘moderate’ range.
As per CPCB classification, an AQI between 0 and 50 is considered ‘good’, 51 to 100 ‘satisfactory’, 101 to 200 ‘moderate’, 201 to 300 ‘poor’, 301 to 400 ‘very poor’, and 401 to 500 ‘severe’.
