The Krishnagar Police District in West Bengal have arrested 53 people and seized more than 1.35 kg of heroin during a nine-day special enforcement drive aimed at cracking down on narcotics, illegal liquor and other contraband.
Over 33 kg of ganja, 986 bottles of illicit liquor and hundreds of bottles of codeine-based cough syrup were also seized in the operation.
According to the cumulative report of the special drive conducted between 11 and 19 July, police registered 53 specific cases and arrested an equal number of accused in connection with offences under various laws, including the NDPS Act.
During the operation, officers also seized 12 consignments of illicit liquor and 12 cases related to contraband drugs.
The seizures included 1.3516 kg of heroin, 33.026 kg of ganja, 648 bottles of codeine-based cough syrup, another 338 bottles of cough syrup and 986 bottles of illicit liquor.
Superintendent of Police Atul V said the drive formed part of an intensified campaign to curb the illegal trade in narcotics and illicit liquor across the district. The operation involved coordinated raids and surveillance at multiple locations, targeting suspected drug peddlers, bootleggers and other offenders.
Officials maintained that similar enforcement drives would continue in the coming days to dismantle drug trafficking networks and prevent the circulation of illegal liquor in the district.
