After Aam Janata Unnayan Party (AJUP) president Humayun Kabir whirled up a political storm over his controversial comments on Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) workers in Murshidabad, Kashipur-Belgachhia MLA Ritesh Tiwari warned in an exclusive conversation with The Statesman that anyone who tries to break law and order in the state will face strict “consequences” under the new Suvendu Adhikari government.
Tiwari said that Kabir and his “team” might have been spared under the previous Trinamool Congress (TMC) regime, but they would be mistaken if they expect such laxity under the new dispensation.
“If he and his team thought that they will do anything like in the previous government and they will do anything like in the previous government, they are living in a fool’s paradise,” the BJP MLA told The Statesman.

Elaborating that times have changed under the new BJP regime, Tiwari said, “Law will take it’s own course. People voted the new government to power for peace, for progress, for law and order.”
In an indirect reference at the minority community in Murshidabad who are largely seen as supporters of the AJUP chief, Tiwari said, “Not only Humanyun Kabir, if any Humayun or any Kabir wants to disrupt law and order, they have to face the consequences.”
Kabir came under a political storm on Saturday over his threats aimed at the BJP, while he was was addressing a public meeting in Murshidabad’s Rejinagar.
“I told Suvendu Adhikari, it is good that you have won and the BJP has won. But your party should not boast too much in Murshidabad,” he had reportedly said.
Sharpening his threat at the ruling party in the state, the Nowda MLA said, “If they cross their limits, they will be in trouble. Lakhs will hit the streets, and I will lead them. We will beat them up. There will be no one left to hold the BJP flag and the BJP district president will also be gone.”
