A member of the Kapil Sangwan gang was arrested by the Special Cell of the Delhi Police in connection with the fatal shooting to death of a man in Haryana’s Jhajjar, an officer said on Sunday.
According to the police, the accused, 35-year-old Harish Saini from Nihal Vihar in Delhi, was wanted in connection with the murder of Sandeep, also known as Bablu, a resident of Ladpur village in Jhajjar.
“At the time of his arrest, police recovered a pistol and two live cartridges from Saini,” said Aalap Patel, Deputy Commissioner of Police, adding that Sandeep was shot dead on July 17 by two unidentified assailants in Ladpur.
Saini had allegedly provided key logistical support to the assailants on the instructions of Kapil Sangwan. A case was registered in Badli, Haryana, and a further investigation is underway.
Following credible information that Saini was hiding in a Nihal Vihar residence, the police conducted a raid and arrested him, the officer said.
“During the raid, Saini allegedly brandished a single-shot pistol and aimed it at the police team. However, the officers managed to overpower him and recovered the weapon along with one live cartridge. According to Patel, Saini has a history of serious criminal activity in Delhi-NCR and has previously been implicated in three cases, including robbery, assault, and arms-related offences.”
Born in 1990, Saini left school after class 7. His mother started working as a domestic worker after his father passed away. His elder brother is currently in Tihar Jail in connection with a murder case.
The police stated that Saini reportedly came into contact with members of the Kapil Sangwan gang and got involved in criminal activities during his brother’s incarceration.
