To boost Delhi’s electricity supply, strengthen its power infrastructure, and resolve transmission issues, a major interstate transmission system (ISTS) project is set to be implemented. The project will also cater to the rising power demand of the national capital.

With its implementation, electricity from Rajasthan will be supplied to Delhi.

Chief Minister Rekha Gupta has set Delhi’s power supply on course to become more reliable and robust by addressing a long-standing issue concerning transmission, while ensuring fair compensation for farmers through a balanced solution.

This breakthrough has paved the way for further strengthening the capital’s power infrastructure.

The ISTS project will pass through nearly 20 villages in North and North-West Delhi, including Auchandi, Harewali, Mungeshpur, and Qutubgarh.

As part of the plan, a sub-station will also be established in Narela, along with a network of transmission lines to ensure an adequate and stable supply of electricity to meet growing demand.

To implement the project, it was decided that farmers whose land the transmission lines would cross would be compensated. However, several rounds of discussions had earlier failed to reach consensus over land valuation and compensation rates, risking delays.

To break this impasse, the Chief Minister recently convened a high-level meeting attended by senior officials from PGCIL and Delhi Government’s Revenue and Power Departments. She reiterated her government’s full commitment to safeguarding the interests of farmers, according to the CMO.

In line with her vision of a developed Delhi and a farmer-friendly approach, consensus has already been reached on land valuation and fair compensation in several villages, with others moving towards agreement.

She said the government’s decision not only provides justice to farmers in line with their rightful entitlements but also clears the path for the project’s timely progress.

The Chief Minister further remarked that this long-standing deadlock was resolved because her government is committed not only to the capital’s development but also to demonstrating firm political will and sensitivity towards the concerns of farmers and the public.
