In an effort to boost Delhi’s healthcare infrastructure, Chief Minister Rekha Gupta on Monday announced that the city will get seven super-speciality hospitals, along with expanded Intensive Care Unit (ICU) capacity.

Speaking at the inaugural ceremony of Yatharth Super Speciality Hospital in Model Town, Gupta said, “It is our responsibility to ensure that not even a single rupee of public money is wasted. That is why we have decided to revive the seven hospitals that were left non-operational during the COVID pandemic. Work on these hospitals has now resumed.”

She informed the gathering that these hospitals were originally launched during the pandemic but had remained non-functional since. Gupta noted that during COVID-19, Delhi’s healthcare system was under immense pressure, with a severe shortage of ICU beds.

She expressed the confidence that the revival of these super-speciality hospitals would not only improve access to critical care but also strengthen the overall healthcare system in the capital.

Gupta highlighted that while the initial plan for these hospitals focused primarily on ICU facilities, they will now be transformed into super-speciality centres. These upgraded hospitals will offer a wide range of critical care services, including kidney transplants, dialysis, cancer care, and high-risk maternity units.

This move, the chief minister added, aims to bridge the gap in specialised healthcare services for the people of Delhi.

During the event, Gupta also urged the private hospitals to register under the Ayushman Bharat scheme and join the government in the mission to provide for the healthcare needs of the masses. “Our endeavour should be to boost healthcare needs of the citizens, such that no one coming to Delhi for treatment should get discouraged. Delhi should be made a medical hub to help people from across the country and the globe,” she added.
