BJP state president Dilip Ghosh on Friday came down heavily on the state government and the South Dinajpur district administration for what he called “excessive rigging” in the recently-concluded rural body elections in the district. Addressing a special meeting of active workers of the party and winning candidates of the rural elections in Balurghat, Mr Ghosh assured BJP’s win in the 2021 elections.

Mr Ghosh later visited the house of the party supporter in Balurghat, whose house was vandalised by miscreants during the rural elections. He then instructed party workers to continue with their political activities in the rural areas.

“During the rural elections, the common people protested outsiders’ activities, while in some areas, they successfully stopped the miscreants. This is just the beginning, and in 2019, the TMC will not be to loot votes. Common people will stop outsiders from snatching away their democratic right. Leaders of the TMC have become uncontrollable and they are using their party and their position to earn money. The rural election was the first step which created panic among the state government, which resulted in transfers of SPs, DMs and ministers,” he said.

Mr Ghosh further claimed that the BJP in South Dinajpur has the potentiality to win maximum number of seats in the state. He also accused the police and MPs for jointly capturing vote counting centres. He meanwhile alerted the ruling party about ‘changing’ their candidates from Balurghat in the 2019 elections.

“In South Dinajpur, 60 candidates of the Muslim community have contested, while six of them have won the polls. Neither the Left nor the TMC have done anything for them. They are now joining the BJP. We are confident that BJP will be the leading political party in West Bengal in the days to come,” Mr Ghosh added.

Later, in his meeting in Raiganj in North Dinajpur, Mr Ghosh called upon BJP leaders to go to the court, demanding recounting of the ballots where candidates of the TMC won in the recent panchayat elections. He claimed that the saffron party will ensure win in most of the places if recounting is done on the seats.

Mr Ghosh on the other hand lamented that some honest and true Congress and CPI-M leaders in North Dinajpur had become ‘weak.’ He asked them to join the BJP.

“BJP’s door is always open for them. TMC is trying to capture our winning BJP candidates either by cash or through police cases. Our members are ready to accept police cases. But they are not ready to take cash, resulting in which police are trying to arrest our members with false cases. Around 3500 workers of our party had to flee from their homes for fear of being attacked by TMC backed miscreants. Around 100 BJP activists who were injured in the attacks are now undergoing treatment in different hospitals,” he claimed.

“The Panchayat vote was a practice session, the 2019 parliamentary elections will be the final one. In 2021, there will be a change in guar here. The BJP will come to power in the state,” Mr Ghosh claimed.
