Accusing Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) of “fake promises”, the Congress party on Friday said that AAP government has taken no steps to provide free metro and bus rides for women.

The Congress in a statement said, “Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal had announced free travel for women in both the DTC buses and in the Delhi Metro. Like all his many previous announcements, this was also a hollow promise, as despite the lapse of two months, neither the AAP government has constituted any committee to work out the formalities to implement free DTC and Metro travel for women, nor the government has framed any policy to execute this promise.”

The Delhi Congress based its accusation on an RTI reply filed by former President of the Okhla Block Congress Committee Parvez Alam and the party said that “RTI reply from the Delhi government has exposed this hollow promise by Kejriwal.”

In the RTI, the Congress leader had asked what steps the Kejriwal government has taken to implement the free ridership for women in metro and buses.

The RTI response said, “Delhi government has not taken any steps to implement free travel for women in DTC buses and Delhi Metro.”

Earlier, the AAP government also announced free electricity for the Delhi residents for up to 200 units and the BJP alleged that it’s an “election gimmick”.

Delhi BJP chief Manoj Tiwari accused Kejriwal of looting Rs 8,500 crore as fixed charge and load charge from consumers and also warned of an agitation if the money looted from the consumers was not refunded.

“If the Delhi government didn’t refund the looted money then the BJP will launch a movement. People will penalise Kejriwal for looting them. It’s Kejriwal’s new tactic of buying votes by making the announcement of freebies in view of the elections,” said Tiwari.
