Following a brief exchange of fire, four wanted criminals were arrested by the Special Cell Unit of the Delhi Police from East Delhi’s Ashok Nagar and Punjab’s Mohali, the police said on Thursday.
According to the police, the four men were linked to foreign-based gangsters Harry Boxer and Rohit Godara.
Boxer, who claimed responsibility for threatening comedian Kapil Sharma, and Godara are linked to the Lawrence Bishnoi gang.
“We received information that two criminals, Kartik Jakhar and Kavish, were planning to commit a crime in Delhi, after which the officers laid a trap and got their hands on the duo in New Ashok Nagar late on Wednesday night,” said Additional Commissioner of Police (Special Cell) Pramod Singh Kushwah.
Adding to his statement, the officer said, “When the police team asked the two to surrender, they opened fire at the officers. In self-defence, our cops retaliated by injuring Jakhar.”
During sustained interrogation, the duo disclosed that two more criminals, associated with the same gang, were planning to eliminate a Chandigarh-based businessman and were staying in a hotel in Mohali. With this information, a team was immediately sent to Mohali, where the other two suspects were held with the weapon in their possession.
“The two henchmen were arrested from a hotel in Mohali on Thursday morning. They were identified as Manoj Saharan, 21, and Pawan Kumar, 30, both from Rajasthan’s Hanumangarh,” the officer added.
They had been tasked by Boxer to fire at a businessman of Mohali who had earlier received an extortion threat of Rs. 10 crore from affiliated gangsters in July, and he had not yielded to demands.
The team also recovered a photo of the businessman who they had planned to eliminate.
The four accused are shooters of the Boxer-Godara gang and are hardcore criminals.
They have been involved in multiple extortion call cases in Delhi and Rajasthan recently, Officer Kushwah said.
