The Municipal Corporation of Delhi organised a grand programme, “Swachhata Ki Pathshala,” at Town Hall in Chandni Chowk on Thursday to spread awareness about cleanliness and encourage community participation in the city’s sanitation drive.
According to officials, city residents were given the message of cleanliness through musical and cultural performances based on the theme ‘From Heart to Heart, a Melodious Message of Cleanliness’.
Delhi University professors Vivek Prajapati and Aashiq Kumar captivated the audience with Sufi verses of Amir Khusro on popular demand. Sakshi Yadav began with an expressive Kathak dance performance. The cultural night concluded with a play focused on imparting the message of cleanliness.
Local councillor Rafia and Municipal Commissioner Ashwini Kumar joined the event as special guests. Deputy Commissioner Anshul Sirohi was also present, the officials said.
Speaking on the occasion, Kumar said, “A clean and healthy Delhi is our top priority.” He emphasised that the Corporation is continuously working to strengthen the sanitation system. However, he noted this mission will only succeed with active participation from every section of society.
Kumar appealed to all citizens to make the cleanliness campaign a people’s movement. The Commissioner praised the artists for their excellent performances and assured that the Corporation will continue to organise such programmes regularly. The event also witnessed a prize distribution ceremony for municipal school children, whose beautiful paintings conveyed the message of sanitation.
