The chargesheet was filed sixty days after the Chief Minister was attacked during a public hearing or Jan Sunwai on August 20.
The court has taken cognizance of the matter and scheduled the next hearing for October 30. It also dismissed the bail application filed by the co-accused, Tehsinraza.
According to police sources, Sakariya Rajeshbhai has been chargesheeted under Sections 109(1), 221, 132, 115(2), and 61(2) of the Bharatiya Nyay Sanhita (BNS). Tehsinraza has been chargesheeted under Sections 109(1), 221, 132, and 61(2) of the same code.
Special Public Prosecutor Pradeep Rana appeared for the state, while Advocate Pradeep Khatri represented the accused.
The incident took place on August 20, 2025, during a public hearing at the Chief Minister’s official residence in Civil Lines. The main accused is currently in judicial custody. During the investigation, his aide Tehsinraza was also arrested for allegedly providing logistical support.
The assailant, Rajeshbhai, a self-proclaimed dog lover, posed as a complainant and gained access to the hearing by carrying some documents. He approached the Chief Minister under the pretext of submitting a petition and discussing a grievance.
He then suddenly attacked her, pulling her hair and attempting to strangle her in an effort to kill her. Rajeshbhai was eventually overpowered by security personnel and taken to the Civil Lines Police Station.
During the subsequent investigation, the police also arrested Tahseen Sayed, a friend of Rajeshbhai, for allegedly providing logistical and financial assistance.
Both accused are currently in judicial custody.
According to police sources, the accused intended to slit the Chief Minister’s throat. Rajeshbhai reportedly confessed that he had planned to use a knife he picked up from a vegetable cart near New Delhi Railway Station, but he was unable to carry it inside the CM’s residence due to strict security checks.
