National capital’s average air quality level witnessed a little improvement on Saturday, with the pollution numbers witnessing a drop by 64 points, but it remained in the ‘very poor’ category.

However, there was not much respite for the residents, as the Average Air Quality Index (AQI) on Saturday was recorded at 305, as per the Central Pollution Control Board’s daily bulletin.

According to the Indian Institute of Tropical Meteorology (IITM), ventilation index is likely to be 6800 m2/s on Sunday, which suggests that the AQI may improve a little more, as the ventilation index above 6000 m2/s with an average wind speed of more than 10 kmph is favorable for dispersion of pollutants.

“The air quality is likely to be in the Very Poor category from 29.11.2025 to 02.12.2025. The outlook for the subsequent 6 Days,” the IITM forecast said.

Index value between 301-400 falls under ‘Very Poor’ category, and may cause respiratory illness on prolonged exposure, as per the CPCB.

The primary pollutants in the city’s air on Saturday were the PM 2.5 particles, as per the pollution monitoring agency, and the figures were based on the readings from 39 air monitoring stations situated across the national capital.

The anti-pollution plan of the Commission for Air Quality Management in NCR and adjoining areas is active in the region, with its measures under stages- I and II being implemented by the agencies concerned.

The sub-committee is continuously monitoring the situation and keeping an eye on pollution mitigation measures being taken by the agencies on ground.

Talking of the weather, the minimum temperature in the national capital on Saturday was 10.4 degrees C, while the maximum was 26.5 degrees C, according to the India Meteorological Department.

For Sunday, the weather agency has forecast a partly cloudy sky, shallow fog in the morning hours.

The maximum and minimum temperatures on Sunday are likely to hover around 25 and 10 degrees C, respectively, IMD said.

According to the IMD, both the minimum and maximum temperatures are likely to fall from December 3 to 5 by 2-3 °C.
