A national registry of crimes against women is being prepared by the National Crime Records Bureau (NCRB) with the help of records sourced from the Crime and Criminal Tracking Network and Systems (CCTNS ).

This was disclosed at the national conference on “Gender Justice in

Criminal Law” organised by the Bureau of Police Research and Development (BPR&D) on Monday. An agency will be engaged to prepare the database, according to NCRB director Ish Kumar.

The crime rate per lakh population in India is officially stated to be “very low” at 7-8 per cent.
