Continuing to address public issues, Delhi Chief Minister Rekha Gupta, on Wednesday, met the citizens of the national capital at the ‘Mukhyamantri Jan Seva Sadan’ and effective steps to resolve their grievances.
The interaction marks the first day of her public hearing (jan sunwai) in a newly-formalized space at 2/8 Civil Lines, with enhanced arrangements and improved facilities. She has been continuing with the same from her residence in Shalimar Bagh.
On the occasion, Gupta remarked, “Today, I saw a spark of hope in people’s eyes and a sense of trust in their hearts—the trust that the government is listening, understanding, and actively working toward solutions.”
This shift will make things better, as earlier, the gatherings often drew large crowds, sometimes requiring the CM to meet and listen to people on the roadside.
Despite the limitations, she remained committed to direct engagement with citizens, and now with the formal inauguration of the ‘Mukhyamantri Jan Seva Sadan’ in Civil Lines, a dedicated space to ensure a structured and more effective process.
During today’s public interaction that took place between 8 am to 10 am, officers from around a dozen departments – including the Delhi Jal Board, Education, Police, Health, and MCD – were also present.
As people submitted their complaints, requests, and suggestions directly, the CM instructions to the concerned departments and officials for redressal at the very instant.
Majority of the grievances that were put up before her were related to issues like crime, drinking water, school admissions, healthcare, roads, and encroachment.
Meanwhile, special arrangements were made at the venue for visitors, including seating, drinking water, and simplified entry procedures to ensure a smooth and dignified process for everyone.
Emphasizing that public service is her life’s mission, Gupta said the public hearings are not only a formality but also a vital channel of direct communication with the public. “Our government works on the principle of ‘not just hearing, but resolving’. Today, I not only listened to people’s problems but also saw their faith that this government is committed to finding solutions,” she added.
The CM gave directions to officials that they must resolve each issue within a specified time frame and assured the public that every complaint would be taken seriously.
Gupta stated that the government’s goal is to transform Delhi into a sensitive and empowered city where public participation in governance is fundamental.
Highlighting the essence of democracy, she said, “True democracy lies in knowing people’s pain, understanding their struggles, and shaping policies based on their real needs. Public hearings are proof that people have faith in democracy and expect constructive change from the government,” she added.
In this context, she alleged that the previous governments lacked such communication mechanisms due to which people were left with no hope of the solution to their problems.
