Delhi BJP president Virendra Sachdeva on Tuesday said that Leader of Opposition in the Delhi Assembly, Atishi, by calling the Delhi Government’s decision to approach the Supreme Court against the NGT’s ban on old vehicles a “drama,” has once again displayed what he termed as the alleged anarchic mindset of her party.
Responding to the AAP leader’s statement, Sachdeva said that for ten years, neither the Arvind Kejriwal-led government nor Atishi made any attempt to seek judicial relief from the NGT’s 2015 ban. This inaction, he claimed, resulted in a situation so deteriorated that the present BJP government had no option but to comply with the judicial order.
Sachdeva further stated that within two days of the implementation of the fuel ban imposed by the judicial body on End-of-Life Vehicles (ELVs), the Delhi government, under Chief Minister Rekha Gupta, took note of the public’s hardship and responded sensitively by taking appropriate steps in the public interest.
The Delhi BJP president said the BJP government would present the public’s concerns in court and expressed confidence that all mechanically fit vehicles are likely to receive judicial relief.
Meanwhile, following a request from the Delhi government, the Commission for Air Quality Management (CAQM) has amended its Directive No. 89. As per the revised directive, the fuel ban will now take effect from November 1, 2025, across Delhi and the NCR.
According to CAQM, “The amendment to Direction No. 89 shall allow the GNCTD additional time to address the technological gaps in the implementation of the ANPR system and shall also align enforcement across the NCT of Delhi with enforcement in the five High Vehicle Density (HVD) districts of NCR — Gurugram, Faridabad, Ghaziabad, Gautam Budh Nagar, and Sonipat — w.e.f. 01.11.2025.”
