The Delhi Police seized 725 kg of banned firecrackers in two separate operations in Dwarka and Najafgarh and arrested two individuals for illegal stockpiling, an official said on Tuesday.
Acting on a tip-off, a team of the Delhi Police raided a house in Uttam Nagar and arrested Gaurav Gupta, recovering 77 kg of firecrackers from his residence, the officer said.
Gupta, who previously sold firecrackers under a valid license until 2022, continued the trade despite the ban on the sale and use of prohibited fireworks, police said.
In the other raid, the team arrested Rajeev Kumar (52), a resident of Najafgarh, after seizing 648 kg of illegal firecrackers stored at a storage unit in Shyam Vihar. The police said the firecrackers were stored under the cover of a carton storage unit in a densely populated area, posing a significant risk to public safety.
An officer added that further investigation is ongoing to trace the supply chain and identify other individuals involved.
