On the instructions of Chief Minister Rekha Gupta, an on ground inspection of the flood-affected areas of the national capital was carried out on Wednesday by Ministers Kapil Mishra and Ravinder Indraj Singh to assess the losses caused to the farmers and the public.
The purpose of the survey carried out from Palla Chowk to the Hiranki area in North West Delhi was aimed at expediting the process of ensuring adequate compensation to the affected farmers. During the survey, the ministers directly interacted with farmers to assess their losses.
On the occasion, both the ministers also carried out a comprehensive review of the administrative arrangements made by the Delhi government to provide relief in the low-lying areas affected by floods.
Expressing concern over the floods in the Yamuna, Mishra said the river flow and the breached embankments are also being assessed. The sight of completely destroyed vegetables and other crops reflects the pain of farmers.
Affirming the commitment of the Delhi government to extending every possible assistance to farmers, he said this is the time in Delhi’s history that two Cabinet ministers together visited flood-affected areas to take stock of the situation arising from flood damage.
“The Delhi government understands the pain of farmers and will ensure adequate compensation for the damaged crops,” he assured.
Indraj said witnessing the destroyed crops from Palla and Jhangola to Hiranki was deeply distressing as it reveals the plight of farmers, the flow of the river, and breached embankments.
The ministers were accompanied by the district magistrate, sub-divisional magistrate, officials from the Agriculture Department, Flood Control Department, and other concerned departments during the inspection.
