South Dinajpur district congress is all set to start its campaign for the upcoming panchayat election in the district through a mega rally in the presence of the state president and member of the All India Congress Committee, Adhir Ranjan Chowdhury on Wednesday.

Protesting against alleged unethical activities of the present board, Mr Chowdhury will be addressing a public meeting in front of the South Dinajpur Zilla Parishad.

District leaders said they are expecting more than 40 thousand congress supporters to join the rally.

Congress won the Gangarampur seat in last state assembly elections in collaboration with the CPIM. The party has a good number of supporters in Harirampur, Tapan, Gangarampur and Balurghat.

“To make our supporters more active and to create an impact at the booth level, we will start our campaign through this mega rally,” an official party source said.

The district president of congress, Nilanjan Roy said, “The Zilla Parishad of South Dinajpur has completely failed to continue developmental work in the district.

They are busy controlling their leaders and in managing the inner conflict among them.

Each and every development work has come to a halt due to inner clash and Tolabazi in the party.

Projects like Balupara Truck stand for export to Bangladesh has been handed over to a private ownership, several constructions of roads has been stopped.

The Zilla Parishad has even failed to send a proposal for the Gram Sarak Yojana.

The present board has deprived the people living in the district from development and growth. We want change in the power of the Zilla Parishad.
