Delhi Chief Minister Rekha Gupta on Wednesday inaugurated around 80 projects worth over ₹760 crore for 50 villages in the city’s rural belt, aimed at accelerating village development under the ‘Delhi Gramoday Abhiyan.’
Gupta said Prime Minister Narendra Modi has often emphasized that “when villages develop, the country develops.” She added that the simultaneous launch of several schemes demonstrates the Delhi government’s strong commitment to empowering rural areas.
At the event held in Outer Delhi’s Pooth Khurd village, the CM dedicated the projects in the presence of Lieutenant Governor Vinai Kumar Saxena.
Gupta highlighted that the government has allocated ₹1,000 crore to the Rural Development Board to ensure village projects are completed without delays or interruptions. She said these initiatives will not only boost infrastructure but also balance cultural heritage, traditions, and modern advancements in Delhi’s villages.
Referring to the rural development model championed by Prime Minister Modi, Gupta said the Delhi government is determined to provide modern facilities to the rural belt while preserving its identity.
Outer Delhi MP Yogendra Chandolia, Delhi Cabinet Minister Ravindra Indraj Singh, and Village Development Board Chairman Rajkumar Chauhan were also present.
As part of the service fortnight (Seva Pakhwada) that began on September 17, coinciding with PM Modi’s birthday and continuing till October 2, Gupta also inaugurated a new sports centre at the CM Shri School in Hiran Kudna village. The advanced facility, equipped with a running track, has been dedicated to students of the area.
“The sports centre will provide better facilities to nurture children’s talent and help them excel at national and international levels,” Gupta said, adding that the initiative will inspire more youth to take up sports.
She assured that her government is working in “mission mode” to complete welfare projects in roads, schools, transportation, and other sectors on time.
L-G Saxena said that under the Delhi Development Authority’s Gramoday Abhiyan such initiatives are giving fresh momentum to rural infrastructure.
“Several works have already been completed, and many more are nearing completion. The goal is to provide villages with facilities matching their needs,” he added.
