Delhi Chief Minister Rekha Gupta on Tuesday emphasised that the cleanliness is not just a task but a way of life. Hence, until everyone makes cleanliness a daily habit, the dream of a ‘Swachh Delhi’ will not be realised.

“A one-day drive cannot solve the problem. This has to be a regular effort, involving institutions, public representatives, officials and every citizen,” she said.

Rekha Gupta made a strong appeal to the people not to disfigure wall writing and posters, stressing that such acts are an offence.

Addressing public representatives directly, she requested, “Please do not use my photograph in any poster. Such activities spoil the beauty of the city.”

The CM added that the cleanliness drive has to be carried forward continuously through joint efforts of the government, officials, and the public so that Delhi remains clean and green.

She appealed to the citizens to take the responsibility of keeping their homes, neighbourhoods, and workplaces clean.

As part of the Swachhata Campaign (Cleanliness Drive) organised under the ongoing service fortnight, Gupta, along with her Council of Ministers, MLAs, councillors, and citizens, actively participated in the drive on Tuesday.

The CM sent across a message underlining that keeping the city clean does not only mean roads and lanes, but also public walls and surroundings.

“Cleanliness is not merely a task but a way of life. Until we all come together to adopt it as a habit, the dream of a ‘Swachh Bharat’ will not be fulfilled,” she reiterated.

On the occasion, she also planted saplings, stressing on the need to conserve environment and greenery.

She highlighted that trees play a vital role in building a clean and healthy society, and noted that waste such as tobacco pouches, plastic bottles, disposable plates and posters were defacing the city.
