After Delhi University, Akhil Bharatiya Vidyarthi Parishad (ABVP) panel swept the University of Hyderabad elections winning all six seats defeating the Left-backed students’ union. The cleansweep by the ABVP in the UoH came after seven long years.

The university students were at the centre of protests over the 400 acres of land in Kancha Gachibowli earmarked by the state government for IT park.

Following the cleansweep, Union Minister of State for Home Affairs and BJP leader Bandi Sanjay Kumar said the GenZ in the UoH had placed their trust in nationalist ideology. “From Punjab to Delhi University to University of Hyderabad, with each win, campus after campus, the saffron wave is turning momentum into mandate,” said the minister.

According to university authorities, there was 81% voter turnout in the elections and involved a day-long counting process across 45 rounds.

More than 5,500 students were eligible to vote. The university authorities also facilitated Braille ballots for visually disabled students, ensuring inclusive participation.

Siva Palepu was elected president with 1541 votes. ABVP also won the posts of vice-president Debendra, general secretary, joint secretary, cultural Secretary and sports secretary.
