Responding to complaints of locals in West Delhi’s Hari Nagar area regarding mounting piles of garbage dumped at an officially closed site on the Mangal Pandey Marg, Urban Development Minister Ashish Sood on Thursday directed MCD officials to deploy Civil Defence personnel at the site during night hours to prevent illegal waste disposal.
The minister gave directions to the civic body agencies as he inspected several garbage hotspots in the Hari Nagar Assembly Constituency, thereby strengthening the government’s efforts to keep the city clean.
Addressing hygiene and sanitation concerns raised by residents of the JJ Cluster in the area, who had informed the Minister about a missing waste-clearing mechanism, the Minister rebuked the sanitation inspector and sanitation workers for negligence and warned of strict action against those responsible.
Taking matters into his own hands, the minister also instructed the civic body officials to provide him with the details, including their numbers, names of drivers, and route plans, of nine tippers appointed in the area for waste collection.
During his visit, Sood also noted the poor condition of a BSES sub-station located near the garbage collection area in proximity to the vegetable market in Nangal Raya in the region.
He instructed both officials of BSES and MCD to immediately repair the sub-station to avoid any accidents, level the pits around the garbage collection site, and construct a boundary wall around the area so that waste does not spill outside.
The Minister instructed the officials and staff present to ensure visible improvement and informed them that he would conduct a follow-up inspection of all these sites after 10 days.
He assured residents that the Delhi Government is working on a war footing to make Delhi clean, healthy, convenient, and modern. All concerned departments are working together to achieve this mission, and the government is committed to providing better services to the citizens of Delhi.
