A 52-year-old man was charred to death when a fire broke out at a house in Tilak Nagar in West Delhi, the Delhi Police said on Monday.
The deceased has been identified as Sunil Kumar Ginotra, a resident of Vishnu Garden, who died in the blaze that had engulfed the ground floor of the building, which was later brought under control by the firefighters.
“A PCR call reporting a fire at a house in Tilak Nagar prompted the local police station to rush a team along with fire brigade personnel to the scene,” said Darade Sharad Bhaskar, Deputy Commissioner of Police (West).
Adding to his statement, he said during the inspection, Ginotra was found inside the premises with severe burn injuries and was declared dead at the scene.
The body of the victim was taken to Deen Dayal Upadhyay (DDU) Hospital for a postmortem examination, he added.
The officer stated that preliminary inquiry indicated that the fire was caused by a short circuit in the office-cum-godown on the building’s ground floor. Since the victim was alone at the time of the incident, no foul play is suspected. However, the exact cause of the fire will be determined only after a forensic examination,” the officer added.
During the investigation into the case, it was found that the property where the incident occurred belongs to Ginotra’s cousin. Crime and forensic teams have inspected the site and collected samples for analysis, the DCP said.
