Delhi Chief Minister Rekha Gupta on Friday said that the government is shifting the public transport to Electric mode (EV), stating that fifty new electric buses have been added to Delhi Transport Corporation’s fleet today.

She has said that providing residents of the national capital with state-of-the-art, convenient, safe and pollution-free public transport, while enhancing greenery while making the capital clean is the government’s top priority.

According to CM, in just eight months, 1,350 New E-buses have been added, which she called a record progress, compared to Just 2,000 Buses in the previous eleven years.

According to CM, the addition of these new EV buses will not only help in reducing pollution, but will also provide the passengers with an eco- friendly and comfortable mode of transportation.

Gupta has said that Delhi government is working hard on every front to control pollution, be it bringing down the garbage mountains, conducting cleanliness drives on a war footing, and also the dust mitigation efforts that have been intensified.

CM, on Friday also laid the foundation stone for the Automated Testing Centre for vehicles, at the DTC depot located in Tekhand, while she also flagged off the new E- buses.

She expressed that this is going to be the second big ATS in Delhi, and will be ready by March next year.

This will ensure transparency in the process of testing vehicles’ fitness, and based on technology.

Speaking on the occasion, the CM said that within a span of just eight months, the Delhi government has made extraordinary progress in the transport sector.

She highlighted the historic measures undertaken to make vehicle fitness testing modern, transparent, and fully digital, and these steps, she noted, will greatly enhance Delhi’s environmental quality and transport efficiency in the coming years.

As per CM, this major initiative will play a crucial role in reducing pollution in the city, as commercial vehicles are among the biggest contributors to pollution in the city, and that robust, technology-driven emission testing is essential for effective pollution control.

Transport Minister Dr Pankaj Kumar Singh, MP Ramvir Singh Bidhuri, Councillor Sugandha Bidhuri, senior officials of the Transport Department, and other dignitaries were also present on the occasion.

She pointed out that Delhi has nearly 6.5 lakh commercial vehicles requiring an annual fitness certificate, yet the system had been neglected for decades.

CM noted that earlier the capital had only one centre at Jhundpura, with a limited testing capacity of just 47,000 vehicles, forcing lakhs of vehicle owners to travel to NCR cities for fitness testing.

Gupta underlined that within just eight months, the current Delhi Government has introduced modern, transparent, and fully digital systems for vehicle fitness testing reforms that will have far-reaching benefits for both the environment and the transport network.
