In a first step towards taking over 449 private schools, which are yet to refund the extra fee charged from the students, Delhi government after the nod of Lieutenant Governor Anil Baijal has started issuing show cause notice to these schools.
The Arvind Kejriwal-led Delhi government asserted that it would not hesitate to take over the management of 449 private schools, if they will not comply with the Justice Anil Dev Singh Committee’s recommendation to refund excess fee charged from students. The government had given the private schools two weeks’ time to take a call on the matter.
A government official said that out of 449 schools, 17 schools have refunded the money, while others are yet to fall in line.
“The process has begun. LG has approved to issue the show cause notice to the schools which are still to reimburse the excess fee charged from the students,” the official said.
Addressing a press conference on 18 August, Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal said that as per the Anil Dev Singh committee recommendation, the private schools have overcharged parents on the pretext of implementing recommendations of the Sixth Pay Commission.
Kejriwal said that even though, the government doesn’t wish to take over these schools, but can’t act as a mute spectator, when parents are being looted in the name of school fee.
Renowned Delhi schools like DPS, Amity International, Sanskriti, Modern School and Springdales are in the list.
