The Howrah Division of Eastern Railway achieved an infrastructure milestone by successfully replacing plate girders of three important railway bridges within a single traffic block taken yesterday.
The work was carried out in the Sainthia–Nalhati section of the strategically vital Sahibganj Loop, a key corridor for both freight and passenger train operations.
This complex operation was executed by the Bridge Unit of Howrah Division and all activities were completed safely and efficiently within the sanctioned traffic block of seven hours, from 11.30 a.m. to 6.30 p.m. At bridge number 141 (down line), the existing plate girders were replaced with new welded plate girders designed for a 25-ton axle load. The operation was completed within the allotted block period using two 350-ton cranes. Similarly, Bridge No. 143 (Down Line) underwent replacement of old plate girders with new welded plate girders suitable for a 25-ton axle load. The activity was executed using one 500-ton crane and one 350-ton crane. At bridge number 171 (down line), old plate girders were replaced with new welded plate girders designed for a 25-ton axle load. The work was completed using one 350-ton crane, adhering to prescribed safety norms and timelines, according to the ER.
