Darjeeling MP Raju Bista, accompanied by Siliguri MLA Dr Shankar Ghosh, called on Union minister of railways Ashwini Vaishnaw in New Delhi on Wednesday. The leaders conveyed their appreciation to the minister for introducing a series of railway development projects benefiting Siliguri, the Darjeeling hills, Terai and the Dooars region.
During the meeting they highlighted several pressing railway-related concerns of North Bengal. These included the need for expedited completion of pending rail over bridges, introduction of new trains from Siliguri, provision of additional stoppages for major national trains, and the upgradation of key railway stations across the region. Other regional connectivity issues were also discussed in detail.
Minister Vaishnaw assured the delegation that the issues raised would be taken up promptly.
“We are optimistic that with Ashwini Vaishnaw’s intervention, these projects will progress rapidly. We look forward to witnessing the positive changes this will bring to our region,” Mr Bista said following the meeting.
