With Netanyahu in the US, Trump hints at possible Gaza deal

Ahead of his meeting with Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu, who is currently in the US to attend the UN General Assembly session, US President Donald Trump on Friday said that a deal on Gaza could be in the works.

“It’s looking like we have a deal on Gaza. I think it’s a deal that gets the hostages back, it’s going to be a deal that ends the war,” Trump told reporters at the White House.

The US President, however, did not offer any further details.

According to reports, Trump will meet Netanyahu at the White House on Monday to discuss the prospects of ending the war in Gaza. Netanyahu, meanwhile, maintained that Israel is “not done yet” in its war against Hamas.

In his UNGA address, which prompted several countries to walk out of the hall, Netanyahu defended Israel’s offensive in Gaza, calling it “one of the most stunning military comebacks in history.”

“Thanks to the resolve of our people, the courage of our soldiers, and the bold decisions we took, Israel rebounded from its darkest day to deliver one of the most stunning military comebacks in history. But we’re not done yet,” he declared.

The Israeli Prime Minister also dismissed Hamas’ appeal for an end to the conflict as insincere.

“You know deep down that Israel is fighting your fight,” he told the UNGA. “Behind closed doors, many of the leaders who publicly condemn us privately thank us. They tell me how much they value Israel’s superb intelligence services that have, time and again, prevented terrorist attacks in their capitals, saving countless lives.”
